Caroline and Cody’s wedding day at Greenhouse Loft in Chicago is making its way to the blog!
We’re incredibly thankful that this couple came into our life after Caroline was a bridesmaid at Hannah and Steve’s wedding in 2018. Then Caroline and Cody even brought one of our favorite couples from 2022 into our life, Ben and Michael. It’s a pretty sweet gig getting to connect and love on so many people and couples like this! Makes my heart melt with gratitude.
It’s a joy to share more about Caroline and Cody’s wedding day!
From the Couple
Cody and I met on Hinge — hence our hashtag #fromhingetohitched. Our first date was at Violet Hour. Caroline later found out was Cody’s favorite place to take his first dates. After a first date that went smoothly, we met for pizza on our second date at Spacca Napoli and shared our first kiss after Caroline drove Cody home.
The proposal was a whirlwind. Caroline’s sister, Kathleen, and her boyfriend, Tommy, were in on it the whole time. We planned to get brunch with them at Theater on the Lake. Caroline was not suspicious at all when they refused to take public transit and insisted on ubering… Or when Cody brought along a backpack with drinks to have after brunch while we walked the lakefront trail. After brunch, everything still seemed very normal to Caroline except that Cody offered to pay for the bill for everyone that morning.
When we got to the lakefront trail, he grabbed my hand and asked me to stop walking. Then he started saying sentimental things (that I cannot recall because emotionally I blacked out). Next thing I know he was grabbing a box out of a pair of socks in the backpack and asking me to marry him. Naturally, I felt shocked but immediately said yes! My sister got some pictures of the event and then we called our family to tell them. Later that evening the surprises kept coming when Cody’s parents hosted a small engagement party for our families.
Favorite Part of the Planning Process
Our favorite part of the planning process was the tasting for the catering and the desserts. We both love food and figuring out what food to serve our friends and family on our big day was the best.
Advice for Engaged Couples
Start planning early so the vendors that you really love are available and can be booked for your special day. It also helps to decrease the stress as the wedding date approaches because the “big” items have been taken care of and you can focus on the little details.
The Wedding Day
Caroline and Cody dreamed of a wedding day surrounded by their family, amazing group of friends, and closest loved ones. Their wedding day was a dream come true, and it was an honor to document all of their favorite people coming together in one place to celebrate their love!
Caroline and Cody’s wedding took place on March 11th. This was also the day of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Chicago, but that didn’t slow us down!
Their wedding day included several locations from the hair salon and hotel in Wicker Park for getting ready to Humboldt Park for photos and Greenhouse Loft where the wedding was taking place… Oh, and I can’t forget a fun stop at Ravinia Brewing for some photos and a quick beer! We were busy running around, but it made for a fun day that definitely passed by in the blink of an eye!
Thinking back to this wedding day, I cannot help but smile. It was so Caroline and Cody. If you know them, you’ll know what I mean! From their choice of venue (Greenhouse Loft is a favorite of ours!) and vendors to their laid-back wedding day style, it was a perfect fit for their vibe. We had a blast serving this couple on their wedding day.
One of my favorite moments from the day included both Caroline and Cody’s shocked & excited faces to see each other at the first look. It was a joy to document Caroline and Cody’s wedding party which was made up of their siblings. Another favorite moment was seeing Caroline and Cody’s nieces and nephews playing a part in their day, so sweet — it was truly a family affair! We also loved that their dear friends, Danielle and Bill, officiated the ceremony. And last but not least, I loved seeing the love that Caroline and Cody’s friends share for them. These two love their people so well and their people love them right back!
Caroline & Cody — Thank you for sharing your Greenhouse Loft wedding day with us! We loved documenting your special day and can’t wait to see where married life takes you two!
