Friends, this blog post has been in my “drafts” folder for nearly two years…
And since I’ve been blogging since 2013, I think sharing this blog post and my heart is long overdue.
I started my blog (and business for that matter) in 2013 out of my college dorm room. I remember brainstorming blog posts, starting to share sessions and weddings, and sharing my heart and journey as I grew with photography and as I grew as a small business owner. I can remember like yesterday clicking “publish” on that very first blog post and wondering… Will anyone read this? Am I wasting my time? Am I a blogger? Now looking back, my heart is happy to be able to look back on those first posts and see how I’ve grown and learned and changed throughout this journey.
I am undeniably thankful for these humble beginnings that are uniquely my own.
When I first started this blog, it was place for me to share – to share my journey with photography and my life. I love to see how this place and my intentions have evolved and changed over the years. What started as sharing stories about nearly each and every session and wedding (which I still do and LOVE dearly!) and a few stories about starting my business has grown into sharing advice for brides, monthly recaps (my own form of a digital scrapbook!), personal stories, business tools, how I navigate life as a small business owner, and photography advice through my experiences. If anything, these past years have taught me of the power of this blogging platform inside my own life. It’s truly morphed into an online journal of stories throughout my life journey. I am thankful for this little – well, 550+ blog post – journal.
I’ve always loved to talk (ask any of my family or friends or clients) and majored in communication and rhetorical studies in college. Throughout growing up, pursuing my college degree, blogging, and starting a business, I feel as I though I have found my voice and love for storytelling and writing. And you know what? This blog as been a culmination and landing place for all of that to come together. It’s been a place of personal growth and struggle and self-discovery.
I guess what I’m trying to say here and share with you today is that I’m thankful that I was called to start blogging and typing my heart and story out to share with the world. When I published my first post, I was hesitant and unsure of the unknown territory ahead, but now, I have this incredible life journal of stories and love and this part of my lifetime. Even though I didn’t quite know it then, I know it now… This life journal with rich stories and conversations and experiences and people and places and love and our marriage and life’s pits and peaks is why I started blogging.
Here is my heart, and I hope that you’ll still follow along for the ride because I’m forever grateful that you’re here reading this right now!
