It’s here, it’s here – Layne and Ricky’s spring wedding day at Heritage Prairie Farm!
We’ve been eagerly anticipating this wedding day since connecting with Layne and Ricky and booking their wedding day on our calendar back in January 2019. In the spring of 2019, we photographed their engagement session and got even more excited for their wedding day! Then, the spring of 2020 brought the coronavirus pandemic and weddings were shut down… Unfortunately, Layne and Ricky were in the most difficult position and had to postpone their June 2020 wedding day to May 2021.
These two have been through so much since getting engaged and planning two wedding days. And they’ve walked this season with grace and kindness! We’re thankful for these two and oh so happy they’re MARRIED!
From the Bride
Ricky and I met in college. We had mutual friends and worked in the dining center of the dorms together. We had a lot in common with our families and hobbies. On one of our first dates, Ricky made us watch a Bulls game over and over at certain parts to watch Derrick Rose plays. Since then sports and going to sporting events has been a big part of our relationship. We enjoy many things together including hiking, sporting events for almost all sports, hanging out with our friends, and most importantly doing home projects and our pup HENRY! Henry joins us on most adventures these days and things aren’t as fun when he can’t come with us.
Ricky proposed to me after we had been dating for 6 1/2 years in one of our favorite spots – Starved Rock. Of course, Henry was involved which was a must since the day we got him. I loved it because I had no idea it was coming… Although looking back there were a lot of signs that I should have pieced together! I started realizing all the signs as he proposed. So, we got engaged under a waterfall with our dog, and it literally could not have been more perfect. Ricky also hired a photographer. Another one of those clues I missed as some lady hiked nearby us, which made the moment so great to look back on and have those photos of our reactions.
Ricky and I like to travel places together even though we don’t do it all the time as daily life can make that challenging. We are excited to travel out of the country for the first time together on our honeymoon to Greece!
We also both enjoy our careers. I am a teacher and Ricky is an accountant and both jobs can easily consume you by either working late or at home. So far, we seem to have a good balance of coming home at a decent time and making sure we eat dinner together and spend the evening together. That’s an important value I think we both share! We feel we both do a good job supporting one another in these journeys.
The Wedding Day
Layne and Ricky’s wedding day took place at Heritage Prairie Farm in Elburn, Illinois. When we arrived on-site, the guys were getting ready in the guys suite and the ladies were getting ready in the farmhouse. We were anticipating a day of rain ahead, but everyone was in amazing spirits and so excited for the day! We’ve never had such an amazing welcome with cheering and clapping as we walked into the door where everyone was getting ready… I loved it!
Before we knew it, it was time for Layne and Ricky to share a sweet first look and letter exchange on the front porch of the farmhouse, protected from the rain. Throughout this wedding day, Kyle was shooting video while our friend Joe second shot photo alongside me. We made a great team, especially with the rainy weather, and had a great bunch of people to work with, too!
As the afternoon went on, we moved inside and out and with umbrellas throughout the property for photos. Yes, it was a rainy day, but everyone made the best of the weather and that’s when the magic happens. Then, it was time to get these two married! They dreamed of an outdoor ceremony, but the cozy barn ceremony while the rain came down outside was just perfect. Wedding days always have a way of working out!
After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate! Layne and Ricky had such a pretty and elegant reception at the tent on the Heritage Prairie Farm grounds. And guess what?! Just after dinner, the skies cleared for a few minutes of photos and dancing at sunset outside. We were thankful!
We loved documenting Layne and Ricky’s wedding day! The only thing missing was their pup, Henry… But I know his parents have told him all about their wedding day! These two are just meant to be, and we loved be a part of their wedding story.
Layne & Ricky – Where do I begin?! Thank you both for trusting us through this process of wedding photography and videography and for leaning on us during the reschedule and pivoting process. We love you guys and wish you many happily married years together!
