Goodness, I am just so excited to share the Matheny family’s maternity session at the studio!
This couple is dear to my heart. I had the honor of photographing their engagement and wedding day, and getting to walk alongside them into this next chapter as they prepare to become parents is such a full-circle moment. What a gift it is to watch love stories grow in this way!
They joined me at the studio in downtown Kankakee for their maternity session, and it was everything we dreamed it would be and more. The soft natural light, simple space, and their excitement for their baby made this session feel so meaningful.
I truly believe the studio is one of the most perfect settings for maternity portraits. It’s a calm, timeless environment where the focus stays exactly where it should be, on this beautiful season of waiting and becoming parents. These photos feel classic yet timeless in the best way!
I also want to say this because I think it matters: Studio maternity photos are not the stiff, outdated “studio” portraits people sometimes think of from years ago. They are not overly posed or overly traditional in that old sense. Instead, they are modern, natural, and timeless. They allow you to feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself. Honestly, they are some of my very favorite sessions to photograph! The Mathenys’ session is the perfect example of that. Simple, elegant, and full of anticipation for the sweetest little arrival.
