Kankakee Studio Newborn Session | The Witzman Family

This studio newborn session is one I won’t soon forget!

It was such a joy to photograph my best friend’s beautiful family once again as they welcomed sweet baby Lainey into the world! This precious girl surprised everyone by arriving a couple of weeks early. Her family has loved getting extra time to soak in all those newborn snuggles these past few weeks.

Watching this family grow has been incredibly sweet. Lainey’s older brothers completely stole the show during portions of this session. They were full of the best smiles and absolutely loved loving on their new baby sister. Seeing siblings step into their new role with so much excitement is always one of my favorite parts of newborn sessions.

Sessions with older siblings always have such a fun rhythm. Over the years, I’ve really found an approach that helps keep the experience calm and enjoyable for everyone involved. We always begin with full family photos before moving into sibling portraits and individual photos of the older kiddos. Once the “big” kids finish, they can relax, snack, play, and just be kids while we focus on the rest of baby’s portraits.

After photographing families and newborns for many years, I’ve learned that creating a peaceful, welcoming environment makes all the difference during these sessions. Having a flow that feels natural and stress-free helps in many ways. Parents breathe easier, and everyone can enjoy the experience instead of feeling rushed or overwhelmed. It truly turns the studio into a space where families can simply slow down and soak in these moments together.

Baby Lainey is already so loved, and it was such an honor to document this sweet season for the Witzman family. These early days go by far too quickly, and I’m so thankful they’ll have these memories to look back on for years to come.
