Julia and Ali’s wedding day is here!
Friends, I cannot say enough good things about this couple. They are kind, caring, and incredibly compassionate toward those in their life that they love. And speaking of the wonderful people in their life, they are surrounded by a tribe of wonderful souls that love them dearly! I was thankful to connect with this couple through a past bride, Lindsey, and her friend (Ali’s sister-in-law) Zenobia.
I love Julia and Ali’s story… These two met on a United Flight to Chicago! After another visit to see each other shortly after meeting on that flight (Julia lived in London at the time), Ali flew to London to propose to Julia on his third visit. And oh yes, this was after a secret visit to Julia’s family in Ohio for their blessing of the marriage, too – how very sweet! Not long after the proposal, Julia made the move to be with Ali in Los Angeles. Their love story was a whirlwind romance from the start – centered around their travels and adventures. So it was only fitting that their wedding day followed suit!
Julia and Ali’s wedding day on July 7, 2018 was their American wedding following a few other days of celebration within their American-Pakistani wedding fusion… So fun! It was an honor to be their photographer for one of these celebrations! And I loved the travel theme on this wedding day that took them back to their roots of travel and adventure and meeting while traveling, too.
As the day begin at the Waldorf Astoria downtown, Julia and her bridesmaids were pampered by the amazing Sarah Lynn Tjaden and her team at SLT Makeup Artistry in Chicagoland. This team was on fire, and the ladies looked fabulous thanks to this glam squad! I loved photographing the girls getting ready along with Julia’s beautiful details for the wedding day. At the same time, Ali and his groomsmen were relaxing in a suite down the hall, of course, watching the World Cup.
The pace of the day picked up quickly as it was soon time for Julia to dress in her simple yet sophisticated wedding gown and walk down to see Ali for the first time on their wedding day. I loved the sweet first look and gift exchange they shared on the balcony at the Waldorf Astoria – it was perfectly intimate and sentimental for these two. The perfect balancing moment to start the rest of their day together.
Soon after, it was time to join the bridal party downstairs for photos at the Waldorf Astoria courtyard and then travel to Milton Lee Olive Park for more photos. With Julia and Ali’s friends, family, and bridal party truly coming to celebrate from all around the world, these two chose Chicago for their wedding day, and they wanted their wedding day to showcase Chicago, too. So we did just that! I loved the mid-day Chicago skyline photos at this second location. The city these two were both flying into on that United flight where they met… The city that will always have a special place in their hearts. The city of that skyline in their photos.
Then, it was time to travel to their gorgeous, unique loft venue for their ceremony and reception – Room 1520. I adored the simple, classic style of this venue paired with the industrial details. This venue was the perfect place for their travel themed wedding day and champagne/rose gold/gray/copper elements – LOVE! The afternoon carried on into the evening where Julia and Ali shared a heartfelt ceremony with vows written to one another. As wedding days come and go, I truly appreciate and cherish these personal vows that couples share with one another. And before we knew it, they sealed their new marriage with a kiss, and it was time to celebrate!
The reception brought speeches, slideshows, surprises, donuts, and dancing… Lots of dancing! This group was so fun and energetic, and they loved showering Julia and Ali with so much love and celebration! My favorite part of the night was sneaking Julia and Ali to the rooftop of Room 1520 for sunset photos… These photos are to die for! Plus, I think these two loved sneaking away for a few minutes alone, too!
Julia + Ali… Thank you, thank you, thank you – for opening your hearts and family to us on your wedding day and for sharing your first married day with us. We love you both and wish you many beautiful married years filled with adventures and travels together!
