Kara Evans Photographer's recap of 2018 wedding days throughout Central Illinois and Chicagoland.Wedding season #6 is officially finished and in the books!

This year, I shared wedding season with twenty-six amazing couples… It has been a joy and honor to spend these wedding days with twenty-six couples as they commit their lives together in marriage. Thankful, thankful, thankful!

Throughout this wedding season, we saw some of the same trends as last year, but this year’s wedding season did bring an abundance of unique details at each and every wedding day. One thing that blew us away wedding after wedding were the FLORALS. Goodness, floral designers are crazy talented, but this year the florals that my brides selected were next level. I was in awe wedding after wedding as I photographed these beautiful brides (and couples) with such gorgeous bouquets and boutonnieres and floral details.

And while the pantone color of the year was ultra violet, I only photographed a handful of weddings that incorporated the color or tones. And I loved them so! One trend that definitely continued from the 2017 pantone of the year was… GREENERY! Greenery, greenery, and more greenery. I love greenery, so you can probably imagine that I was thrilled!

Across the board, long bridesmaids dresses were popular as well as mismatched bridesmaids dresses. I loved seeing so many bridesmaids in styles that they loved AND felt comfortable in… All while complimenting the overall wedding style perfectly! A good number of my brides wore veils and some simply opted for hairpieces or floral accents in their hair. On the groom side of things, we saw more long ties vs. bow ties (sad face from Kyle because bow ties are his FAV!), and tons of navy blue suits + even some suspenders, too!

Some moments that make me smile when I look back on this wedding season are… You guessed it, several wedding days that included their pups in wedding photos, walking down the aisle, or the reception celebration. I also LOVED seeing unique takes on the dessert tables on wedding days – cake, cupcakes, donuts, mini pies, cookies, brownies, and so much more – you know I’m a fan of the sweets table! One of my favorite unity ceremonies was a handfasting ritual that took place later in this wedding season. And it’s true that we were overjoyed to photograph weddings from lakeside venues to barns to ballrooms to lofts to canyons to country clubs to museums and more. Friends, with all of these moments and HUNDREDS more in between, I know I could write a book and fill it with joyful moments and wedding day experiences.

At the end of the 2018 wedding season, my heart is full! Each and every one of these couples is near and dear to my heart, and I love them so!
