Wedding Wednesday | The Window Effect in Your Getting Ready Space

August 3, 2016

Hey, I’m Kara!
I'm a family photographer and studio owner based in Kankakee, Illinois. My joy is helping families pause, celebrate, and remember life’s milestones – from new babies to growing little ones, and all the in-between moments.

As a natural light on-location photographer, I am constantly looking for light. Sources of light, harshness of light, types of light… Light!

So, when it comes to a wedding day getting ready space, I always recommend to my couples that they choose a getting ready location that offers a clean slate and lot of yummy window light. Yep, that’s right, natural light! You guessed it!

In these beautiful getting ready spaces with the bride, I feel most creative with a clean slate. I photograph details, finishing touches, and most importantly, the bride in her wedding dress. After the bride is dressed and ready, I try to take a few minutes to photograph her using “the window effect”… AKA beautiful bridal portraits using natural window light.

These images speak for themselves and truly represent a bride’s elegance on her wedding day. I LOVE utilizing spaces and challenging my creativity. My advice? Always choose a getting ready space with lots of window light and a clean slate for the prettiest getting ready photos!
