Hello, my name is Sarah Tjaden, and I’m the owner of SLT Makeup Artistry, LLC. My team and I are an on-location bridal beauty team, based in the Northwestern Suburbs of Chicago. We primarily beautify clients in the Midwest: Chicago, Northwestern and Western Suburbs of Chicago, Southern Wisconsin, Eastern Iowa; we’ve even serviced a couple South Dakota brides, too!
Over the years, my team and I have had the pleasure of glamming up numerous clients. We’ve seen many different makeup and hairstyling inspiration photos from our brides. From adding a pop of lip color with tousled beach waves to winged-liner and a full updo, we’ve experienced it all. Below are our top three unforgettably timeless and elegant bridal beauty looks anyone can pull off.
Bohemian Glowing Goddess
- Hair – Tousled ½ updo, braided style; you can either alternate the direction you curl your hair or keep each strand going in the same direction. Make sure to “pull out” your braid so it’s fuller and looser – that will give it the boho vibe.
- Makeup – Emphasis on bronzer, highlight, and lashes; use a neutral color palette on your eyes (earthy browns, mauves, or greens), shades of mauve or soft pink on your lips, add a couple extra coats of mascara and highlight your cheekbones.
Natural Elegance
- Hair – Soft low bun or tousled updo; the idea behind this look is keeping your hair how you would “naturally” wear it, just a little more polished
- Makeup – Monochromatic soft pinks/mauves on lips, cheeks, eyes with full lashes; monochromatic means “of being in the same hue/color family” so think of using the same color, just with different shades.

- Hair – Side-swept beach waves with braids; the best way to get a perfect beach wave is to not put too much thought into it and alternate the direction you’re curling your hair for each strand.
- Makeup – Emphasis on eyes, lips, and highlight; items to add to your look are winged liner, a pop of color on your lips, and a dewy glow on your cheekbones, nose, and chin.
