There is something so special about photographing a family throughout so many seasons of life. From engagement photos and wedding day memories to the beautiful milestones that come after, it has been such a joy to document the Robinson family over the years. Every spring, I look forward to their annual Mother’s Day session, and this year’s session was no exception!
Like many spring sessions in the Midwest, this one took a little patience to make happen. Between the rain, cold temperatures, and unpredictable winds, we found ourselves rescheduling and watching the forecast closely. When the evening of their session finally arrived, we were greeted with chilly temperatures but the most beautiful spring scenery. We met at the campus of Olivet Nazarene University, and everything was incredibly lush and green. After a long Midwest winter, it felt so refreshing to see the trees full again and the landscape coming back to life.
I absolutely loved Neiry’s vision for this session. The soft colors, the connection between her and her children, and the joy they brought made this evening so meaningful to photograph. Sessions like these always remind me why I love motherhood photography so much. The little hugs, hand holding, laughter, and even the in-between moments are the memories that matter most.
As a photographer, I want this session to serve as a reminder to get in the photos. Whether you hire a professional photographer or simply hand your husband or a family member your iPhone for a quick photo – make sure you are documenting your presence in your family’s story. These are the moments we cannot get back, but they are the memories we will one day treasure most. So often, moms are the ones behind the camera capturing everyone else. But your children will want to look back and see you there, too. They will want to remember the way you held them, laughed with them, and loved them during these fleeting years.
I feel incredibly grateful for every mom who steps in front of my camera and trusts me to preserve these moments for their family. There are so many amazing mamas out there, and it is such an honor to get to know, love, and document their stories throughout the years.
I hope all the mamas had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
