It’s so fun to be a bridesmaid! As a wedding photographer and someone that has been a bridesmaid, I think I offer a unique perspective on the role.
Here are my top three tips for bridesmaids!
1. Be present! — Being present is so important as a bridesmaid because the bride wants to share this experience, process, and day with you! When you’re present, you’re all in and willing to help with anything the bride needs – emotionally and physically – throughout the planning process. Maybe she needs to wind down from the stress of planning with a girl’s day or maybe she simply needs advice on which invitations to order! Plus, when you’re present you can have more fun and truly (and fully) experience the wedding process alongside the bride, and groom, too!
2. Stay prepared! — When I say this, I mean that you should always be prepared for anything! As a bridesmaid, try to minimize the opportunity for things to go “wrong” on the wedding day (and at wedding events). Prepare an emergency kit, and try to keep the bride as relaxed and stress free as possible!
3. Put yourself in her shoes! — That’s right, put yourself in the bride’s shoes. Of course, I am not meaning that you should literally wear her shoes but that you should be empathetic. Think about the joy and excitement of a wedding day and realize that the bride truly wants a beautiful day surrounded by those she loves the most! Things can get hectic and stressful, so help keep the bride’s focus on the joy of the process + her upcoming marriage. Always keep the couple’s needs at center and shower them with love!
