Eeeek – I’m so giddy for Madalyn and Devin’s wedding day to hit the blog today!
I adore these two. They are kind, compassionate, silly, and most importantly, they love each other deeply! These two are the kind of people that fill your cup up – their happiness is contagious, and they share their joy with those around them each and every day. It was an absolute honor to be a part of their wedding journey over the past year as their engagement and wedding photographer.
Madalyn and Devin met when they were 17 and 20… Devin was coaching junior high basketball and Madalyn’s younger brother’s team happened to be playing against Devin’s team! They had always known each other and started dating and growing together shortly after that evening and basketball game. I love how love tends to find you in the most unexpected places. These two both went to Illinois College (where I met sweet Madalyn!)… Insert a side note — I fondly remember meeting Madalyn on one of my first days at IC. She was so kind and caring and welcoming, and I have adored her as a friend ever since!
After dating for a few years, Devin proposed to Madalyn on June 21, 2017 in front of Sturtevant on the Illinois College campus. This meaningful campus will always hold a special place in their hearts as they remember so many days spent on campus, the beautiful proposal on campus, and oh yes, engagement AND wedding photos on campus, too. How very special!
Over the past year, I had been looking forward to this wedding day. Not only would it be Madalyn and Devin’s wedding day, but her parents were celebrating their wedding anniversary that day, too. Oh my heart! I love it dearly and believe marriage should be celebrated – what a beautiful honor of marriage Madalyn and Devin shared on this day with her parents.
The day started out beautifully and warm though we were thankful for a lovely breeze! The girls started the day by getting ready at LB Beauty in Jacksonville – hey, remember this beautiful space AND bridesmaid from Kayla and Eric’s wedding? – and it was the perfect space for the girls to gather, have their hair and makeup done, and to relax before the rest of the day started to unfold. And before we knew it, it was time to travel just up the street to the Illinois College campus for a few photos before the ceremony.
One thing I particularly loved about Madalyn and Devin’s wedding day was that SO many people surrounded them to celebrate their marriage at their wedding reception, but earlier in the day it was special how they shared a very intimate ceremony with their parents, siblings, and grandparents. Love, love, love! And after the ceremony, it was time for more photos and meeting and greeting their extended family and guests for more photos and cocktail hour. Of course, you know I loved sneaking these two out of the reception (along with their wonderful videographer Sabrina of Golden Arrow Productions) for a few minutes of sunset photos and then watching them dance the night away.
All in all, this wedding day was a dream from the couple to their family and friends to the beautiful neutral style with champagne and golds and greenery to celebrating Madalyn’s parents’ anniversary to the beautiful light to hugging another one of my 2018 brides (who also did Madalyn’s AMAZING hair!), Lakyn. I loved everything about this day!
Madalyn + Devin… Thank you for trusting us to document your wedding day! You two are a true JOY, and we wish you many happy married years!
