There is something so special about documenting a baby’s first year, and I was so excited to welcome the Robinson family back to the studio to celebrate Rosalie’s six-month milestone! This sweet girl was all smiles throughout her session. She truly made my job so easy! From her happy personality to all of her adorable expressions, every photo perfectly captures this fun stage of Rosalie’s first year.
One of the things I love most about milestone sessions is how simple they can be. They don’t need elaborate setups or a long timeline to tell your family’s story. A short, relaxed studio session is often all it takes to document your baby’s growing personality and preserve these moments before they change all over again. Six months is such a fun age because babies are full of smiles, often starting to sit independently, and becoming so curious about the world around them.
If you’re expecting a little one or already thinking ahead to your baby’s first year, one of the questions I get asked most often is when to schedule milestone photos. While there isn’t one “right” answer, my two favorite options are… Newborn, four-month, eight-month, and first birthday sessions, or newborn, six-month, and first birthday sessions. Both timelines document your baby’s first year while giving enough time between sessions to capture meaningful changes and new milestones.
Personally, I don’t usually recommend scheduling sessions at newborn, three, six, nine, and twelve months. Those milestones often happen so close together that there isn’t always enough change between each session to make the most of every visit. Spacing your sessions out a little more allows you to document each exciting new stage. From those first smiles and tummy time to sitting independently, crawling, standing, and eventually celebrating that unforgettable first birthday.
No matter which timeline you choose, milestone sessions are always some of my favorites to photograph. They’re sweet, relaxed, and focused entirely on your growing baby and the little details you’ll never want to forget.
