Photographing a family as they settle into a brand-new season of life is incredibly special. The Dittrich family’s newborn session was such a sweet one to photograph!
At the end of August, they welcomed their first little boy, Nolan, and I had the honor of documenting these early days together in the studio. There is nothing quite like those first few weeks with a new baby. Everything feels brand new, and you’re soaking in all of the little details that you know will change so quickly.
Newborn sessions with sleepy, cuddly babies are hands down some of my favorite sessions to photograph. I love every newborn session, but there is something extra special about having a little one who wants to snuggle in and be close to mom and dad. When babies are this sleepy and peaceful, it gives us so much creative freedom. We can capture a beautiful variety of images without rushing the moment. We can photograph those sweet little details on their own, then focus on the connection between baby and each parent, and of course, lots of snuggles along the way.
Nolan was an absolute dream for his newborn session. We spent our time in my natural light studio keeping things simple and letting him settle into all of those sweet newborn moments. From his tiny features and sleepy smiles to the way he fit so perfectly into his parents’ arms… There were so many little details worth documenting. These are the photos that I hope the Dittrich family will look back on years from now and remember just how tiny he once was.
One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is knowing that a newborn session is just the beginning. There will be so many more milestones ahead for this little guy. I’m already looking forward to watching Nolan grow and getting to photograph the Dittrich family through all of those seasons. From those first sleepy newborn days to birthdays, family sessions, and all of the moments in between… It is such an honor to be invited back again and again to document a family’s story!
