I always love the start of the new year. I’m a planner, so I love sitting down and writing down my personal and business goals for the year and sharing them with my hubby. I’m one of those people that feels encouraged by the start of the new year and what’s ahead. And yes, sometimes the start of the new year can be overwhelming with those goals, to-do lists, resolutions, or whatever you like, but I truly believe if you tune into the energy of the new year, you will find encouragement and JOY.
The month of January started off with a quiet week after the new year, time spent with a new mentoring client, and a coffee date with a newly engaged couple – I love it! Then the first weekend of the month brought a few more activities as we really kicked off the month – drill weekend for my hubby, a girls day with my sister and niece, and a little celebration for my nephew’s first birthday.
After the birthday party, I was unfortunately taken down for the count by a nasty sick bug that’s been going around. Those few days of laying low at home made me so thankful that I am my own boss, and I could rearrange my schedule to work with my health. After I started feeling better, I met another couple in love, traveled down to Springfield for a beautiful winter engagement session, mentored TWO more clients, and put my photos up for display throughout the months of January and February at my favorite local bakery, Two Whisks Bakery. And to round out the week, we showered my cousin with a winter wonderland themed baby shower while it truly was a snowstorm outside!
The following week brought a visit from my best photographer friend Kate, a lifestyle in-home session with me, Kyle, and Georgie, bridesmaids dress shopping for my best friend Kylie’s wedding day, and packing for Disney! By the weekend, when we were supposed to be heading to Disney, a big snowstorm cancelled our flight to Disney and forced us to lay low at home for an extra day before heading south. Goodness, let me tell you that when you want to be at Disney and your flight is cancelled + rebooked, you get ants in your pants!
And yes, we finally made it to Disney – eeeek! And had a wonderful week with my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and nephew Cooper as we celebrated his first birthday all throughout the most magical place on earth. The look in Cooper’s eyes as he experienced Disney for the very first time is something I will never forget! And you better bet we had dinner at both of our favorite places, ‘Ohana and Be Our Guest, too! After a week of running around at Disney, we were tired, our hearts were full, and we were thankful to be home snuggling our Georgie girl.
To round out the month, we had a quieter week at home getting back into the groove of things after our trip. And oh yeah, we were thankful to be able to stay inside as much as possible because at one point the windchill was -60 where we live during that last week of the month’s polar vortex… Brrrr!
Cheers to February – the month of love!
