I’ll admit it, over the past year or two “self care” has maybe become a popular buzzword in the creative world. And while that may make it seem like it’s some fad that will come and go, I truly don’t believe that’s the case here. In my experience, self care is vital to the success of my life and business. Taking time to intentionally take care of myself and my well-being is what puts me in the right mindset to serve others through my passion project.
You know how they say that you cannot pour from an empty cup? Well, it’s true.
So maybe you’re feeling stuck… Where do I start? What can self care look like for me? How do I get back to loving and caring for myself like I have in the past? I’m here to help you! And girlfriend, these three ways to refocus on self care come into practice in my life throughout the seasons of my life and business, too.
1) Take a day off.
That’s right, intentionally unplug from work, turn on your email responder, and take an entire day off work. Sometimes it’s simply having a day to disconnect from our work when we can truly refuel our souls + begin to serve our people in the very best ways possible. I’m a huge advocate for creatives taking AT LEAST one day off per week. As for me? Sundays are always my day for church and family time, and I love them so.
2) Start your day with something you love.
Maybe it’s a yoga practice, journaling, walking the dog, or a cup of coffee that you love. Yes, simply start your day with something that you love. On the mornings I start with an at-home yoga practice or mile walk with Georgie, I find that I am most centered and focused and ready for the day ahead. Starting my day with something that I love helps me pour love into others.
3) Get yourself outside!
Yep, get your booty outside! Sometimes all we need is the simple act of self care that takes us out of our home office or coffeeshop workspace and outside. Maybe it’s stepping away from your work over lunch for a quick walk around the block, reading outside on the patio, or simply sitting on your front porch for a moment of fresh air… Getting yourself outside is a simple yet fueling act of self care in my book!
So, there you have it! I truly hope these three ways to refocus on self care can impact you today. And even though self care may seem like something “all the cool kids are doing” right now, it truly goes far beyond that and encourages the importance of intentionally taking care of you and your mindset.
