Amie and Ben’s romantic and fun destination wedding day at the Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya is here!
Last summer, Amie and Ben got engaged the night before Amie’s birthday! They jumped right into planning their destination wedding day, and it was an honor that they reached out about wedding photography and videography. The cherry on top? Amie is my sister-in-law’s bestie (we also photographed her destination wedding), so we would be able to spend time with some of our own family at their wedding, too.
It is an honor to share more of this couple’s story and wedding day on the blog! Kyle and I loved traveling to Tulum to document Amie and Ben’s wedding day.
From the Couple
Ben and I met on a dating app before I made the move to Nashville. We connected, started talking on the phone, and then face-timing. He came out to see me my last week in Santa Barbara! We fell in love. I think we both knew when I picked him up from the airport. We had this amazing chemistry and felt like we had known each other before we met in person!
The proposal was July 27th the day before my birthday. Ben asked me if there was anything else I wanted in my 34th year. I said well there is one thing, and he said well let’s talk about that. I said okay! And he got down on one knee and proposed — just us two!
Favorite Part Of The Planning Process
For us, we loved the simplicity and easy planning process of a destination wedding! We’ve enjoyed having a few choices from the resort and them taking care of the rest!
Advice For Engaged Couples
Make sure you create your wedding day around yourselves as a couple! So many people will have opinions but just remember the day is for YOU!
The Wedding Day
Amie and Ben’s wedding day was all about a classic and timeless yet laid-back vibe and spending the day with their closest family and friends! These two are so loved —around eighty people traveled to Tulum for their wedding day!
The day started with Amie getting ready at the Conrad Spa next door to the Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya while Ben got ready and had some time to hang out with the guys. Kyle and I spent time with both Amie and Ben before the first look. We loved seeing how eager they were to see each other and spend the day together.
Amie and Ben shared a sweet first look and letter exchange outside their resort casa. After the first look, we took a few photos of the couple at the resort before meeting up with the family for family photos.
One thing I absolutely loved about Amie and Ben’s wedding day was how family-focused it was. It doesn’t often happen this way, but I took photos of Amie and Ben’s immediate families on the beach the night before the wedding. This was an amazing opportunity for everyone to work with me prior to the wedding day. It helped everyone know what to expect during family formals on the wedding day and everyone was all-in for wedding photos the next day — made my job a dream!
As the afternoon carried on, it was time for Amie and Ben to share their beach wedding ceremony! The Tulum backdrop (still swooning over these photos) speaks for itself and was perfect for Amie and Ben’s wedding vision. After the short and sweet ceremony performed by their friend, Amie and Ben spent the rest of the evening celebrating with loved ones.
My favorite part of the day was sneaking Amie and Ben away for sunset photos on the beach just before the reception kicked off. They were full of life and love and joy and capturing those moments was so special to us. Plus that wind and those veil shots outside with the backdrop of Tulum — cue the heart eyes!
Amie & Ben — Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for asking Kyle and me to travel to Tulum for your wedding day! We love you both and are cheering you on in married life.
