Choosing a Wedding Photographer | What questions should I ask?

March 28, 2016

Hey, I’m Kara!
Hey, I’m Kara! A wedding and family photographer based in Kankakee, Illinois! Whether I’m photographing your wedding day or everyday milestones and memories as a family, this job is my joy.

As a wedding photographer (and a newlywed myself), I think that transparency is key in vendor-client relationships when it comes to a couple’s wedding day.

Today, I’m sharing a list of questions that I think are important to ask when searching for a wedding photographer. I hope that brides and grooms can use this short list as a tool while searching for a photographer… I also hope this serves as a guide for couples to use to make sure they are finding a photographer that is the best fit for them and their wedding day needs.

  1. How would you describe your photographic style?

  2. What is your favorite part about working with couples?

  3. What type of coverage do you offer? Hourly, all day, etc.

  4. Do you work with a second shooter?

  5. Do you travel? If so, how far is the limit?

  6. Approximately how many photos will we receive?

  7. What print and product options do you offer?

In addition to these answering these questions, I always ask couples about themselves – their love story, their wedding day vision, their interests… Finding a good fit on both sides (photographer and client) is imperative. It’s okay and encouraged to have a conversation, not just a business transaction.

Whether a couple books my services or not, I always work to be as transparent and accommodating as possible, while also finding out if we would be a good fit because after all, I was in their shoes once, too!
