Every once in a while, a session feels a little extra special simply because of who is on the other side of my camera!
This one was with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law, along with my three nephews and a fourth nephew on the way! My sister-in-law Erin is expecting their newest little guy, so this session felt extra sweet before they become a family of six.
And can we talk about this backyard?! I mean, seriously. Can you believe this is their backyard? It is absolutely gorgeous, and I will never complain about getting to photograph a summer evening here. We had rain earlier in the day, so we weren’t quite sure what the evening would bring. So, we were so incredibly grateful when the clouds cleared, and the most beautiful sunset showed up for us.
Of course, the boys made the session what it was. Rather than trying to keep everyone perfectly posed, I wanted to let them play, run, explore, and just be themselves. There were plenty of genuine smiles, lots of movement, and all of the fun that comes with photographing three boys who are simply enjoying a summer night together. Those are always my favorite kinds of family photos. Because years from now, I don’t want them to only remember what they looked like. I want these images to bring them right back to how this season felt.
There is something about summer evenings that I wish I could bottle up. The warm air, the golden light, kids running barefoot through the grass, the sound of laughter, and that feeling that bedtime can wait because there are still a few more minutes of daylight left. That is what this session felt like to me.
I know I am a little biased because these are my nephews, but I absolutely adore this gallery! These photos capture so much of who they are right now… And I know how quickly this season is going to change once their baby brother arrives. Soon there will be four little boys running around this backyard, and I can’t wait to see their family grow.
For now, though, I am so grateful for this little snapshot of a summer night with some of my favorite boys. These photos may not be able to bottle up the whole feeling of the evening, but they sure do come pretty close!
