Hey there, my name is Lucas Henrichs. I am a 10+ year veteran of the wedding industry, specifically wedding entertainment and DJ services! I have entertained clients within all ranges of budgets, and “visions” for their event, on both coasts, and multiple points in the middle!
First things first, congratulations on your engagement! Such an amazing time! Planning your wedding reception and finding a wedding DJ that’s a perfect fit can be a daunting task… But it doesn’t need to be! Establish your vision early. What’s important to you? What are your must-haves? Great photos? Amazing video? Photo booth? Lots of dancing? Beautiful venue? When people leave your reception, and they head back to their jobs on Monday morning, what will they tell their coworkers?
I sit at my office desk, a table at Starbucks, or on a webcam via Zoom. I talk with the faces of a happy couple who come to me for answers. The very first question I am trying to answer is “Are we a good fit?” Their questions, however, are ones they don’t know what to ask. All they know is they are engaged, and they are getting married on “Fill in the date.” And they are likely feeling completely out of their comfort zone in this whole wedding planning thing.
First things first, as a wedding professional, I am very honest. Maybe a little too honest. I don’t want anyone to make a mistake that will cost many dollars for their wedding day. If I can save you time, energy and/or money. I consider that a win. Now that you’ve read that, let’s really dive in!
From the vendors you hire to the food you select and even down to the music choices that you suggest that I play. It all comes back to you! You can have the most beautiful dress, the best of chair covers, best veggie platters… No matter what, it’s all about the two of you and your day.
All your vendors are part of a team – no one more important than the next. Not the caterer, not the DJ, not the photographer, not the wedding planner. They are all part of your team. You are hiring an outcome. Not a vendor. You are hiring someone for their talents and experience to get your amazing photos, smooth-running reception, etc. This will all fit within your vision. The right vendor choice will move heaven and earth on your wedding day!
The purpose of this blog post is to give that special couple some advice before going into their search for their wedding DJ. Let’s face it, you can Google some questions, but guess what, as a wedding professional I hear the same questions multiple times a week. I’m honored to share my experience with you!
Truthfully, I believe there should be zero hesitation in their answers! Always trust your instincts. Remember, the wedding DJ you hire… It’s them and a live microphone in front of your family and friends!
Being a fluent master of ceremonies, a proficient DJ, or a skilled storyteller is an art – cultivated with hours of practice before your event. As the timeless saying is true, you get what you pay for… Invest wisely!
