Kankakee Studio Newborn Photographer | The McCray Family

There is something extra special about kicking off the new year with families who have grown in front of my lens!

My first session of the year was with the McCray family, and it was such a meaningful way to begin another season behind the lens. I have been photographing their family for several years now, and it has truly been an honor to watch their story grow chapter by chapter.

Just before Christmas, they welcomed their third baby, Max, and he was an absolute dream for his first photo session. Sweet, cuddly, and so content – baby Max soaked up every snuggle and made this newborn session feel calm and cozy from the start. Watching his big brother and big sister interact with him was so fun. We did a little sibling wrangling along the way, but they are clearly smitten with their new baby brother!

Newborn sessions with older siblings can feel intimidating, but they are always worth it. One of the biggest pieces of advice I share with parents is this: go into your newborn session with flexible expectations. Siblings will be siblings, kids will be kids. They may need breaks, encouragement, or a little extra time to warm up, and that is more than okay. Some of the most meaningful photos come from the in-between moments… The quick hugs, the curious glances, and the laughter that happens when things are not perfectly posed.

The McCray family embraced this season exactly as it is, and it made their session even better. These early newborn days pass so quickly, especially when you are adjusting to life as a family of five. Being able to preserve this moment, big siblings included, is something they will treasure for years to come.

Starting the year with the McCray family and sweet baby Max was such a gift. I’m so excited to continue walking alongside families as they grow and telling their stories through every season!
