Here we are – still sheltering in place during this season, so why not have a little fun! This Friday Five blog post is all about my current shelter in place favs.
1. Home Projects
I love DIY home projects. I also LOVE to paint – my husband does not, ha! There are many times where Kyle will come home and I’m knee-deep in a spontaneous project or painting something in our home… He’s not surprised by that anymore! Last fall, we bought our first home and knew there were some projects we wanted to do. But it was fall wedding season and then winter hit, and now we’re here! Since the shelter in place started, we’ve refinished our kitchen cabinets, spraypainted + updated fixtures, painted doorknobs, painted the front door, cleaned up the yard, loved on our little plant starter babies in the kitchen, started to plan our spring/summer landscaping, and spring cleaned the house. WHEW! It feels so good to knock things off our home to-do list!
2. Learning Something New
I’m an entrepreneur at heart. And I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit! So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m learning something new in this season – how to make earrings! I’m making minimalistic, geometric earrings and having so much fun. It’s fun to flex AND challenge our creative muscles!
3. Books, Books, & More Books!
Since we’ve been staying at home and I’m not able to photograph any sessions or weddings right now, I’ve been carving out time – most days – to read… Whether it’s reading a paperback book, book on the Kindle app, or listening to an audiobook while I clean the house, I’m loving this time where I can dive into books! I’ve always been a reader so this is just the perfect reason to read more. I’ve already made it through 4 or 5 books and currently have 2 books open on my “bookshelf” that I’m reading. Love it!
4. Time in the Kitchen
If you know me, you know that I love to bake and try new recipes. Since the shelter in place started mid-March, I’ve baked (and cooked!) so many old favorites and new recipes… From lattice top pies to yeast bread to chocolate fudge bundt cake to cookies to banana bread to homemade noodles to all kinds of things in between. It’s so good for my soul to dive into recipes in the kitchen in this season!
5. Virtual Time with Family & Friends
I’ve always been a fan of FaceTime! We often hop on calls with our nieces, nephews, and siblings, but this season has brought virtual time to a whole new level! I’m loving virtual game nights and happy hours, video workouts with my bestie in the mornings, having fun on the Houseparty app, and so thankful for group video calls with our college pals, too. Oh yes, we’re embracing virtual calls and staying in touch with our favorite people!
Well, there you have it – five of my shelter in place favorites! And in case you needed a little reminder… We’re in this together, friend!
