I always love being invited into seasons like this, and I loved getting to celebrate Michelle and Derek as they prepare to welcome their baby girl!
Their maternity session took place at Studio 388, and I think we were all extra grateful that we had planned a studio session for this one. After a very rainy week, having a beautiful, comfortable space with gorgeous natural light meant we could forget about the weather outside and capture this session.
This session was simple, relaxed, and sweet, which felt like the perfect way to document this chapter for Michelle and Derek. We moved at an easy pace, soaked up all that beautiful natural light, and focused on these two and their growing family. I love maternity sessions that don’t feel overly complicated. There is so much beauty in celebrating the connection between the two of you and the little one you’re waiting to meet.
Maternity photos are such a beautiful way to remember this season… Especially because pregnancy can feel like it is moving both incredibly slowly and incredibly quickly at the same time. You are waiting, preparing, and dreaming about who this little person will be… And then before you know it, you are holding them in your arms. Having photos from this season gives you a chance to remember what it felt like to be waiting for her.
If you are expecting a little one and thinking about maternity photos, I recommend scheduling your session between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. This timing usually gives you that beautiful baby bump while still allowing you to feel fairly comfortable before you reach the final stretch of pregnancy. I also recommend reaching out during your second trimester to get your session on the calendar. Especially if you have a specific timeframe for photos in mind!
Michelle and Derek, thank you for trusting me to document this incredibly special season for your family. I cannot wait to see you step into this next chapter and meet your baby girl.
