Oh happy day – let’s welcome my friend Katie from Two Whisks Bakery to the blog! As a self-proclaimed wedding cake connoisseur, I’m excited that Katie is sharing tips for selecting your wedding sweets with Two Whisks Bakery on the blog today!
Helllooooo sweet friends!
Congratulations – you are engaged and have made all your big decisions (venue, photographer, DJ), and now it’s time for the sweet stuff! So exciting! I own a small bakery in Manteno, Illinois. Manteno is the cutest little town with so much character – such a fun place to visit while planning the best day of your lives.
We offer complimentary tastings so we can pick exactly what is best to make your day perfect. Wedding tastings are one of my most favorite parts of my job – I get to meet the couple and get to know them on the sweetest level. I feel you really connect with people when they are four cupcakes deep, but maybe that’s just me. This also gives us time to really hash out the specifics of your day (including pricing and timelines)!
Here is a short list of things to keep in mind. I made it short and sweet (no pun intended that time!) so you can breeze through it. Most importantly, I want you to realize that you are only engaged for such a short amount of time – and out of all of the overwhelming and stressful decisions you have to make in the process, this should not be one of them. Enjoy it!
Ok, here it goes…
1) Step away from Pinterest.
Pinterest is a fantastic tool to have in your arsenal, but don’t get too caught up in it! Before you head straight to pinning, try thinking of things that are unique to the two of you and your relationship. Do you guys love Fruity Pebbles? Great, let’s come up with a Fruity Pebbles flavor for your cake. You both really can’t stand cake? Cool, how about a gorgeous pie to cut instead? Once you have some ideas, you can turn to Pinterest to drive it home, but start with you two – those are the things your guests will remember.
2) No topper, no problem!
If you can’t find something that is, ‘so you’, then skip it! The rules that your mom had to follow don’t exist anymore. ? Put flowers on top instead, or pull a ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ and put Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots up there!
3) Delivered and ready.
Ask your baker what delivery and set up is like. They should handle getting your desserts completely ready so when your guests arrive everything looks perfect. They should be adding any flowers or topper you may have to your cake, as well as displaying your desserts if a dessert table was chosen. Everything should be completely ready for guests when your baker leaves your reception hall.
4) Cake tasting is for the guys.
There is not a ton that guys get excited about during the wedding planning process. I am lucky enough that cake is usually what gets them. Ladies, let your guy take the reins (with some guidance ?) when it comes to the cake. Maybe they don’t care about how the cake looks necessarily (which is perfect, because we DO), but they usually DO care about how it tastes and what flavors you pick. If there is one that he really loves, make sure you incorporate that. There are so many details that are about us, the brides, let him have this one. Tell him it’s all about him and what he wants for the cake – I promise it will go far.
I am genuinely excited for you and I can’t wait to meet you. Cheers to your future together and starting it on a sweet note!
Thanks for sharing all of this sweetness with the blog, Katie! ?
