Over seven years ago, I started my business… And I started my business as an everything photographer – from photographing weddings to babies to families to seniors to couples to events to everything else in between! Yep, during those days you could find me in my cramped college dorm room editing photos, blogging sessions, packaging client gifts, emailing brides, and building my business. It was after I had a mentor in my high school years yet before starting my own business that my eyes were opened to the world of being your own boss – being an entrepreneur – and the entrepreneurial spirit that I believe I had always had since being a little girl was sparked again.
But seven years ago I wasn’t connected to a creative community, let alone photography community beyond my very own photography mentor, like I am today. I hadn’t found my tribe within the creative community… In fact, I had no idea that finding my tribe in the creative community would have quite the impact that it has had on me and my business journey. Today, it brings me great joy to connect with other creatives through fostering community because I truly believe we are all better together. We are all better when we lean on each other as a creative community to succeed!
You see, today I am surrounded and encouraged by a tribe of photographer and creative friends that are the type that will text back and forth deciding whether a color or black and white photo is our favorite, that will drive around a city to scope out photo locations and hop out when we find one, that will collaborate on a styled shoot, that will help each other work through seasons in our business, that will fiercely support one another on Instagram and more importantly – in real life, that will meet for a coffee date just because, that will support you in the most exciting and most terrifying moments of your business, that will drop everything to have a lunch date or drink when you’re in town visiting, that will have the most fun on a rooftop at sunset photographing each other’s headshots, and that have become my dearest friends.
My heart didn’t know it needed a kind, confident, and close knit community of creatives when I started this business seven years ago… And now my tribe in the creative community is one of the very things my life and business can’t live without. Finding your tribe in the creative community is one of the greatest keys to success if you ask me!
