On October 30, 2015, my sister Alyssa and brother-in-law Sebastian celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary. This anniversary, though, was like no other they shared before… This anniversary they renewed their wedding vows.

Over the past five years of my sister’s marriage, and even before while they dated and enjoyed their engagement, I have come to know Sebastian not as only my “brother-in-law” but truly as the brother I never had. He has been welcomed into our home and lives as if he always was meant to be a part of our family. I am so grateful to have him as one of “us”.

Last year, Alyssa and Sebastian announced that they wanted to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary in Bogotá, Colombia surrounded by Sebastian’s family that were unable to attend their wedding in the United States. I thought that this was perfect, their “second” wedding, and so fitting for their anniversary together.

With all of this, my husband Kyle, my parents, and I joined Alyssa, Sebastian, and the Colombian family members in Bogotá for a week of sight-seeing, exploring, and family time. Throughout our stay, it was so meaningful to see how Sebastian’s family opened their homes to my family and were willing to show us their city. It felt like home away from home. I loved exploring the city, taking in the beautiful landscapes, and spending uninterrupted time with my family.

On their anniversary, Alyssa and Sebastian were excited to see all of their family gather, celebrate, and enjoy each other’s company at El Pórtico near Chía, Colombia. I talked these two into doing a first look before starting formal photos, and I think I can positively say that the two of them were thrilled with the results! See, they know to trust me!

The day was gorgeous, the vow renewal beautiful, and the evening lasted late into the night with catching up, meeting new family members, laughing, and taking photos. I loved being able to take such a meaningful trip and photograph Alyssa and Sebastian’s vow renewal alongside my husband. These times are so special!
