Don’t they say everything is better in Texas? (Maybe? I don’t know where I heard this!)
The second week of January this year, I had the opportunity to travel to Dallas, Texas with my best friend from college for a family session with her aunt and uncle’s family.
YES – we made this into a girl’s trip with work and play… Now we want to know when we can do it all over again (who wouldn’t want to do it again?)!
Last Spring, I photographed the Dingwerth twins when they were visiting family in Illinois, so when they asked me about photographing the entire family IN Texas, I was totally for it!
This is how things played out… We planned the session and trip back in October, all to the surprise of my best friend to find out on Christmas that we were both going to Texas together in January. How fun is that?!
I usually do not do well with surprises. Disclaimer: If you ask me what you’re getting for Christmas, I WILL tell you. So, you had better really want to know! I am not a surprise person myself, but I have to say that I do have a soft spot for planning surprises that actually surprise me in the end. I just tend to ask a lot of questions.. Oops!
You can probably guess that I did not want to ruin this surprise, so I absolutely avoided talking about Christmas gifts and January during conversations with my best friend (I know it sounds silly, but it worked!). I’m telling you guys, surprises aren’t my thing!
Surprises that lead to travel are pretty much awesome though. The opportunity to travel is one of the aspects of this business that I LOVE the most.
Oftentimes, I am traveling within Illinois and Indiana for sessions, but it is incredibly fulfilling to be able to go beyond the normal, comfortable area and explore. I do, I absolutely do, love traveling throughout my home state for sessions – seeing new people, places, spaces – but change is good and needed sometimes.
Travel allows me to expand my business in many ways, shapes, and forms. This challenges my work and my creative vibes, which makes my heart happy and keeps all of you wanting more (I hope!).
So, sit back and enjoy photos from the Dingwerth family session in TEXAS!
XOX,
Kara
