On this Wedding Wednesday, I am ecstatic to start a new blog series titled “You’re Engaged… Now what’s next?”. Throughout the next few weeks, I will be sharing tips about what to do when you first get engaged, start planning, and more! 

This week’s focus is on the very first thing you need to do once you’re engaged… In my book, that’s personally telling your family and friends! Maybe your new fiancé organized an engagement party directly following your engagement or proposed while you were surrounded by family and friends – Well, then your job is easy, and the celebrating has probably already started! That takes one step out of the equation!

If your engagement happened with only you and your fiancé in a more intimate setting, then it’s time to let your close family and friends know that you’re engaged and planning to be married! Congratulations are in order!

I think it’s very important to take the time to list out (or have in mind) who you need to visit (distance permitting) or call once you’re engaged. These are the most important people to you in your life – your parents, your siblings, your best friends, and other family members. You want to be extremely considerate when sharing your news with your close family and friends prior to putting it on social media! 

Once your close family and friends know about the engagement, sometimes couples like to keep their engagement off of social media for a few days, while others want to post and share as soon as possible! Whatever the case, I truly believe to each their own as long as you’ve taken the time to personally tell those close to you. I know your family and friends will appreciate sharing this moment of happy, exciting news with you!
