More than ten years. That is how long I have had the absolute honor of photographing the Spry family!
When I stop and think about all of the sessions we have shared over the years, it really is something special. I have gotten to watch their family grow, change, and evolve through so many different seasons. I never take for granted what it means when a family continues to invite me back into their lives year after year. There is something so beautiful about being able to look through a past gallery and then photograph the next chapter of the story.
For this Central Illinois family session, we met up at one of my favorite hidden gems for family photos. Tucked away at a local forest preserve, this location has everything I love in an outdoor session setting: beautiful trees, tall grasses, walking paths, plenty of space to explore, and a quiet, peaceful feel. It is one of those places that has so much potential and so many beautiful little pockets for photos.
We were celebrating Kallin’s six-month milestone, and the evening could not have been more perfect. After plenty of hot and humid summer days, we were treated to one of those gorgeous August evenings that felt just right. The temperatures were comfortable, the humidity had eased up, and we had beautiful light as we explored the forest preserve together. It was the perfect setting to document this sweet season of their family!
Six months is such a fun age to photograph because babies are changing so quickly. They are becoming more expressive, more interactive, and their little personalities are really starting to shine. Kallin’s session was filled with those sweet little details that make this stage so special, while also giving us plenty of time to document her with her family and capture where they are right now. And oh my goodness, her big brother almost stole the show! Knoxley is growing up so fast, and I absolutely loved capturing him at this age.
But honestly, the milestone itself is only part of what makes this session special to me. It is the fact that I have photographed the Spry family for more than a decade. I have seen their family through so many chapters. And now I get to photograph another generation of memories for them. This is exactly why I love family photography. It is not just about one beautiful gallery. It is about building a relationship with a family and getting to tell their story again and again.
Spry family, thank you for trusting me with your memories for all these years. I hope you know just how special it is to have watched your family grow in front of my camera. Here is to many more sessions and many more chapters!
